About the seamstress
Hello hello! I’m Carolyn, also known as CJ, a lover of life and seamstress who is lucky enough to have learned how to create clothes and a new way of life for myself. I am a speech language pathologist and seamstress who calls the Mountain State home.
My sewing journey began in the suburbs of Philadelphia at the age of eight when my mom and I took “mommy and me” sewing classes together.
When I attended college in Pittsburgh, I “borrowed” my mom’s sewing machine to make scrunchies for my friend girls and earn some extra beer money. Following undergrad, I moved to West Virginia for graduate school where I fell in love with the rolling hills and opportunities to connect with kindred spirits and the natural world.
West Virginia is the place where I learned to slow down and feel the earth beneath my feet. Living in a welcoming community with immediate access to nature inspires me to live creatively and intentionally.
I am considered to be a self taught seamstress as I have not had any professional training or formal education for clothing design, but no one does anything alone. I have received great help developing my sewing skills from Mom, Anne, Lory, and Nellie. I am full of gratitude for these women and all of the hands that have worked on the quilts that enable me to breathe new life into these textiles through this business.
Thank you for being here and for being you!
